Inside the Roundhouse
When the big steam locomotives come in for the night, they never sleep. The boilers are taken down to a certain level, but are never allowed to go out. This is where the locomotives “rest” inside the Roundhouse, while they are tended to from above and below. You can see the pit at the front of the rails just inside the door where the mechanics can get at the engine from below. I find this to be one of the most fascinating places on earth.
