Christmas Eve storm

Yesterday was a wonderful day of weather drama. My friend, Hal, and I drove north to Payson, Arizona with the hope of getting caught in a snowstorm. The snowstorm came in later, but we got to see and feel it moving in. This image is of the storm moving in from the vantage point of the Mogollon Rim. The clouds were moving in quickly, driven by a fierce, cold wind. As I shot this image, the wind was pushing against me so hard, it was difficult to hold the camera steady.

By the time we drove back down to Payson to get coffee, the rain had started, slowly at first, then as we drove back to the Valley and home, the rain was heavy and blowing sideways. The last time we had been in a winter storm of this intensity, we were riding our motorbikes from Death Valley, California to Kingman, Arizona.  We were glad we were in the car this time, warm and dry, with a good cup of coffee! Payson enjoyed a white Christmas this year!
